Rosberg wins Spanish Grand Prix with domination
Nico Rosberg dominated the Spanish Grand Prix to victory and revived his title battle on his team mate Lewis Hamilton who had to settle for second after a bad start and getting stuck behind Vettel.
Nico Rosberg made a fantastic start at the lights and led the way while Lewis Hamilton messed the start dropping almost to 4th letting Sebastian Vettel to take second position and just managing to hinder off Bottas. Rosberg flew away at the front but Hamilton found it impossible to get ahead of Vettel´s Ferrari in the tough Catalunya circuit as he complained in the radio.
Hamilton, definitely faster in pace than the Ferrari, opted to get ahead with an early pit stop but unfortunately he got delayed with a stuck rear wheel giving advantage again to Vettel.
Leader Rosberg was in a race of his own, while Hamilton in 3rd again tried to get ahead of Vettel but it happened only on his early 2nd stop.
With the hard tyres on, Hamilton drove like a maniac churning in fastest lap after lap to get some space ahead of Vettel during his pistop window.
When Vettel pitted his Ferrari, the Mercedes driver was safely ahead and started to cut the gap on the leader. While Rosberg pitted for his 2nd stop Hamilton led the race briefly.
Meanwhile Alonso driving a struggling McLaren in his home race started to experience brake issues and was called into the pits for a checkup. Unable to stop Alonso's McLaren nearly hit his front jack man who jumped off avoiding any accident. Alonso's car was instantaneously retired due to brake failure.
A similar incident happened with Grosjean, he missed is braking spot on the pitlane slightly hitting his front jack man but without any serious injuries.
With 15 laps to go Hamilton had to go for a 3rd stop and rejoined nearly 20 seconds behind his teammate Nico Rosberg in the lead.
Hamilton tried to reel in on his team mate Rosberg but it was too big and impossible for the world champion and had to concede after a radio call.
Rosberg won his first race of the season with a lead of 17 seconds over Hamilton while Sebastian Vettel scored another podium for Ferrari finishing third. Valteri Bottas on the Williams came in fourth while Kimi Raikkonen crossed 5th in his Ferrari.
